Newsround
I think I mentioned that Steve went home last week. The situation was/is that although Steve thought he was OK to teach the College wasn't so sure. I think I mentioned that on the Friday I went to Shanghai Steve was told he needed another month in hospital and the school couldn't countenance that so they were terminating his contract and sending him home.
As I mentioned Tom got involved, got another opinion from the Global Doctor, and the College reversed their decision. However they said that Steve couldn't work as 1. He was a healthy and safety risk (Yes even in China!) 2. The College would be humiliated in the eyes of the students thinking the College was making Steve work and 3. The Students would abuse and humiliate Steve. Thats how stupid they are.
So Steve took himself off to the UK to the brilliant NHS service who have since confirmed Dr. Collinas diagnosis that all was healing nicely and to his mums love and Sunday dinners. We, the foreign teachers, continue to cover his teaching to the end of term, however this time the College is paying us (the minimum) to do it.
He hopes to be back for the new term which starts in February.
No news is good news in terms of my accident, no contact from the Police, but of course thats means I have lost my scooter. I discussed this with my agent and we both think that discretion is the better sort of valour so we are not going to push the police or the college for anything. The most likeliest result is that it'll be forgotten. Heres hoping.
My foot still hurts though. Walking or standing for any long period makes it ache a lot. I am taking ibruprofen.
Second thing is the crown on my back teeth has worked loose, so that means a visit to the dentist, but thankfully we know the dentist that sorted Steve out knows his stuff, so I'm off there on Wednesday. Still who wants to visit any dentist huh?
It has started to get cold here. Nothing to bad, but many Chinese are bundled up as if they are heading for an artic trip. They are all wearing thermal underwear (obviously thats a generalisation as I havent checked all 80 billion of them, just noticed the odd glimpse here and there) and face masks. Im going to start taking pictures of the face masks to prove it.
Some days are dull, windy and decidely chilly but others are warm and sunny with blue skies. The days can be as warm as an English summer day so its quite nice.
Saturday and Sunday being a case in point. Saturday was really nice and I pampered myself a little. I had a haircut, did a bit of shopping (bought a great 'trappers' style hat, moisturiser for a dry elbow, cheese and another towel as drying the two I have is getting difficult) then I had a sauna and a body scrub in the bath house, treated myself to noodles from the great noodle guy by the Metro station and celebrated with a beer and an early night because I had plans for Sunday.
On Sunday I went into Nanjing, firstly I wanted to see if the Dentist was open, most things are open 7 days a week here, unfortunatly not the dentist, but I did get the number and called them. Im seeing them on Wednesday. Then I went to the main park and wandered around in the sunshine taking pictures of people enjoying their Sunday. I also spent sometime on the large square outside the train station, which is also on the banks of the lake in the park. Then mid afternoon I jumped on the Metro and took of to Fuzi Meow, which is a shopping area around the Confucious Temple.
I took loads of photos which you can see here on facebook
